How to apply for a grant

Walter Ahlström Foundation supports scientific research in the fields of wood processing, electrical engineering, energy and the metal industries.

The Foundation awards grants for doctoral or post-doctoral technology research, study trips and scientific research.

How to apply

Sign in to the grant system and fill in an electronic form to apply for a grant. If you are a first time applicant, you need to register first.

The incentive grants for doctoral dissertations and study trips are typically between EUR 3,000 and EUR 5,000. You can also apply for funding for more extensive research projects.

To be eligible for a grant, the applicant must be 35 or younger, and have a Finnish personal identity code. For long-term research projects, grant funding is available for up to three years. Applications must be submitted separately for each year. Grants are also awarded for shorter research projects.

Evaluation criteria & tips for the applicants

The Foundation’s Board of Directors receives a large number of grant applications each year. Over the past few years, grants have been awarded to about 30% of all applicants.

Successful applications are generally concise and well-structured. Research projects should involve fields supported by the Walter Ahlström Foundation. Projects delivering demonstrable long-term value to Finnish business and industry are considered particularly worthy of support.
